  1. This is how the line in menu.lst would look like:

    title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic
    uuid 8a4ea490-266c-4156-a7b4-112b06df05a4
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic root=UUID=8a4ea490-266c-4156-a7b4-112b06df05a4 ro quiet splash i8042.nomux=1
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-9-generic
    quiet

  2. Mine looks like this, and it says I can’t save it. Can anyone help me out on this?

    title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-7-generic
    uuid 11a076bc-74f6-42e4-81b9-b4bec09a011e
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic root=UUID=11a076bc-74f6-42e4-81b9-b4bec09a011e ro ROOTFLAGS=syncio quiet splash i8042.nomux=1
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-7-generic
    quiet

I’m really new to ubuntu by the way 🙂

  3. Did you try using sudo to edit the file ? you must have been editing the file as an unprivileged user.

    use:
    sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

Be careful while editing the file
